Who can benefit from Reiki?Reiki is for anyone who feels drawn to pause, reconnect, and restore. You don’t need to be going through a major life event—or even consider yourself spiritual—to benefit. This practice is open to all. Whether you're navigating change, feeling overwhelmed, seeking balance, or simply craving a quiet moment to yourself, Reiki offers gentle, noninvasive support. Those who benefit most tend to be open to the process, curious about their own growth, and willing to explore the subtle shifts that can unfold over time. Whether you’re brand new to energy work or well along your healing path, Reiki meets you exactly where you are.
-
I've never had Reiki before...is that OK?Absolutely! No previous experience is required or expected. Many of my clients are brand new to Reiki. I take time at the beginning of each session to explain what to expect, answer any questions you have, and help you feel comfortable. Reiki is gentle, non-invasive, and meets you exactly where you are—just come as you are, and we’ll go from there. Feel free to call or text with any questions—I’m happy to chat and help you feel comfortable before your session (650) 561-2185. You’re also welcome to explore more about Reiki through a reputable source like the International Association of Reiki Professionals (IARP): What is Reiki?
-
How do I book a session? You can book your session online through my website here. It’s preferred that you schedule directly through the website, as this allows you to see all available days and times in real time and submit payment easily and securely. Please note that booking closes 24 hours before the session start time so I can plan and prepare in advance. If you have questions before booking or need help choosing the right session, feel free to reach out (650) 561-2185.
-
How should I prepare for my first Reiki session? There’s nothing special you need to do—Reiki meets you exactly where you are. That said, a few simple steps can help you feel more at ease and ready to receive: Wear comfortable clothing so you can relax during the session. Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated afterward. Give yourself plenty of time to arrive so you’re not rushed or stressed. If this is your first visit, please be sure you’ve signed and submitted the Client Disclosure Statement and Consent Agreement. Feel free to call or text with any questions—I’m happy to chat and help you feel comfortable before your session (650) 561-2185. You’re also welcome to explore more about Reiki through a reputable source like the International Association of Reiki Professionals (IARP): What is Reiki?
-
What should I wear to a session?Wear comfortable, non-restrictive clothing that allows you to fully relax. You’ll remain fully clothed during the session, so there’s no need to change or dress a certain way. Some people prefer to remove jewelry or watches to feel more at ease, but it’s entirely up to you—Reiki flows regardless.
-
Will you touch me during a Reiki session? No. I practice proximity Reiki, meaning I do not use physical touch. Energy is directed from a short distance with focused intention, and clients remain fully clothed throughout the session.
-
Do I need to lay down or be still the whole time? No. While many people choose to lie down to relax, you’re welcome to sit up or shift positions as needed. Your comfort is the priority.
-
Can I fall asleep during Reiki?Yes, and it’s completely normal. Many people drift into a light sleep or deep meditative state during a session. Your body and energy know what they need—and rest is often part of that process.
-
Can I talk during my session?Yes. While many clients prefer to relax in silence, you’re welcome to speak if you feel the need to share something or ask a question. This is your time, and you’ll be gently guided to settle into whatever feels most supportive.
-
What does a Reiki session feel like ?Every person’s experience is unique. Some people feel warmth, tingling, or waves of energy moving through the body. Others feel deeply relaxed or even fall asleep. You may also notice emotional release, insights, or simply a sense of calm. And if you don’t feel anything at all—that’s okay too. Reiki works whether you feel it or not.
-
What if I don't feel anything?Reiki works on an energetic level and is not always immediately felt. Even if you don’t notice anything during the session, you may experience subtle shifts afterward. Trust that your body and energy system are responding in the way that’s right for you.
-
How do I know if the Reiki worked?Reiki is a subtle practice—not something that provides instant proof or dramatic results every time. It’s not a quick fix, and there’s no one-size-fits-all outcome. Instead, it invites you to soften into trust—into something greater than yourself—and allow the process to unfold. Rather than looking for a specific result, pay attention to how you feel in the days that follow. You may notice feeling more grounded, calm, clear-headed, or even just a little more at ease. These shifts may be immediate or may unfold gradually. Everyone experiences Reiki differently. Some shifts are tangible, while others are more subtle. Either way, trust that what’s happening is for your highest good—even if it’s not immediately obvious. And if you’re unsure or have questions afterward, you’re always welcome to reach out. I’m here to support you (650) 561-2185.
-
Is there anything I need to do after my session? There’s nothing you have to do, but a few simple practices can help you feel more grounded and support your integration: Drink extra water: Staying well-hydrated can help your body process and integrate the energy work. Give yourself time and space: If possible, ease back into your day. A quiet walk, journaling, or simply resting can help extend the benefits of the session. Stay curious: In the days following your session, gently notice any subtle shifts. You might feel more centered, focused, balanced, or experience less stress. Some people feel an immediate sense of calm, while for others, the effects unfold gradually. Trust your process: Everyone’s experience is unique. However you feel afterward—whether energized, emotional, or deeply relaxed—is valid and part of your individual journey. If any questions arise after your session, feel free to call or text me (650) 561-2185. I’m always happy to support you as you reflect and integrate.
-
How often should I get Reiki? There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Some people come for a one-time reset, while others find regular sessions—weekly, biweekly, or monthly—helpful for staying balanced and grounded. If you're navigating stress or a life transition, more frequent sessions may be supportive. Ultimately, it’s about what feels right for you. I’m happy to help you find a rhythm that fits your needs.

Why is Reiki considered "self-healing"?Reiki supports your body’s natural ability to restore balance—it's not something that's done to you, but something you actively participate in. My role as a practitioner is to create the space and facilitate the flow of universal life force energy; your system does the rest. I simply serve as a conduit. As the energy flows, your subconscious knows exactly what to take in—gently guiding you toward whatever shifts, insights, or ease you're ready to receive. Reiki honors your inner wisdom and works in partnership with it.

Which lineage of Reiki is practiced at Palo Alto Reiki? As a Reiki Master, I practice and teach the Usui method of Reiki. This method of energy healing was founded in Japan by Dr. Mikao in 1865. His tradition and methods were passed through several grandmasters of Reiki. Today, Reiki takes many forms, however, the Usui system of energy healing is still the form most widely practiced. You may read the complete history of Usui Reiki here.

Why does Palo Alto Reiki focus on serving women, those who identify as women, children, and teens? It was a conscious choice—and not one I made lightly. The decision wasn’t so much about excluding men as it was about intentionally calling women in. Over the years, I’ve naturally had very few male clients, so in practice, it wasn’t a dramatic shift. But energetically, it was. We all carry both masculine and feminine energies within us—universal forces that have nothing to do with gender. Masculine energy expresses through doing, giving, focusing, and building. Feminine energy shows up in being, receiving, feeling, and allowing. Both are essential, but in our modern world—where masculine energy is often dominant—many people, especially women, experience deep imbalance. That imbalance can manifest as stress, frustration, burnout, detachment, lack of motivation, or discomfort. By creating a sacred space specifically for women, children, and teens, Palo Alto Reiki offers a much-needed invitation to slow down. Here, feminine energies like intuition, emotion, stillness, and softness are not just welcomed—they're prioritized. It gives women and young people a place to reconnect with themselves, rest from the demands of everyday life, and restore their energetic balance. This work is close to my heart, and I’m honored to support women and children in this way. If you're unsure whether this space is the right fit for you or your child, please feel free to reach out—I'm always happy to talk (650) 561-2185.

Is Reiki affiliated with a religion? No. Reiki is not connected to any religion, doctrine, or belief system. It is based on the concept of universal life force energy—a natural, vital energy that flows through all living things. Reiki is not something that can be owned or claimed; it is ever-present and accessible to anyone, regardless of background or spiritual path. You don’t need to believe in anything specific to benefit from Reiki. All that’s required is an openness to receive.
-
Is a Zoom session as effective as an in person session?Yes—energy knows no boundaries. Reiki works beyond time and space, which means a distance session over Zoom can be just as effective as one held in person. As a certified Reiki Master, I’ve been professionally trained to send Reiki across any distance. Whether we’re in the same room or miles apart, the energy flows where it’s needed most. If you’re curious about how distance Reiki works, you can learn more here.
-
What happens during a Zoom Reiki session?Distance Reiki sessions take place over Zoom or while you rest in a quiet space at home. I guide you into a relaxed state and then send Reiki energy with focused intention. You may notice sensations, emotions, or simply feel deeply relaxed. The energy flows just as effectively as it does in person.
