Top 10 Tools to Banish the Blah

Feeling off, but can't pinpoint why? Tune into your energy for the answer.

Though the human eye cannot see the energetic fields in and around us, we most definitely can sense and feel them. When our energy is out of balance, depleted, or overactive we may experience symptoms like feeling; blah, stuck, unproductive, negative, overwhelmed, restless, exasperated, directionless, insecure, doubtful, short tempered, emotionally exhausted, underappreciated, or unmotivated (just to name a few!) Sometimes we group all these feelings together and call it stress. Whatever we call it, it's critical to our overall health to take care of it, because these energetic symptoms may be precursors to physical illness or disease. By tuning into and caring for our energetic health, we're also caring for our physical health. Here are my top 10 recommendations on how to do just that.

  1. Reiki--Receiving Reiki is like receiving an energetic tune up. During a Reiki session, universal energy flows from the practitioner's hands directly into your energetic field automatically activating your ability to self heal. Reiki energy can balance chakras, remove emotional blockages, and leave you feeling profoundly relaxed. Reiki is beneficial for anyone, at any time, and only requires an open mind to be effective. If Reiki is something that sounds right for you, I invite you to schedule a Reiki Healing Session.

  2. Meditation--Meditation in any form, for any length of time, is extremely beneficial. Meditation takes your brain out of the stressful "fight or flight" response and into the "rest and digest" mode. This allows your conscious thinking mind to take a break from stress, and your subconscious higher mind to take over and de-stress. To learn more about meditation, check out my video.

  3. Earthing--I believe so strongly in earthing that I wrote a seperate blog post all about it. The gist of earthing is exactly what it sounds like--putting your bare feet or hands in/on the earth. Examples of this are walking barefoot in grass, playing with sand on the beach, and gardening with bare hands. Your overall wellbeing will greatly improve with regular earthing.

  4. Time in Nature--Time spent in nature is healing on so many levels. It reminds us of our oneness with the universe, reconnects us with Mama Earth, and grounds us in humility. Time spent in quiet reflection walking on the beach, gazing at the stars, Forest Bathing, counting clouds in the sky, smelling wildflowers, or swimming in a lake is always a good idea.

  5. Oracle Cards--Sometimes we just need someone else to tell us what to do. When my own energy feels overwhelmed, anxious, or directionless I turn to the divine for support via oracle cards. I intuitively choose the deck that "calls" to me, knock out the old energy, shuffle the cards to infuse my energy, then ask aloud "what message do I need right now for my highest good?" Whichever card I pull, I accept as guidance from my higher self and trust the message is meant for me. Here are a few of my go-to decks: Angel Tarot Cards, Goddess Guidance Oracle Cards, Crystal Spirits Oracle, Keepers of the Light Oracle Cards, The Animal Spirit Oracle, Archetype Cards, The Starseed Oracle, and The Divine Feminine Oracle. I invite you to explore oracle cards for yourself, or if it feels right for you, you may book a card reading with me.

  6. Affirmations--Choose an affirmation that resonates with you and repeat it out loud and often. It may seem silly at first, but if you stick with it, it has the power to shift your mind (thus your life) from negative to positive. Every morning I repeat aloud the Five Reiki Principals. "Just for today I will not anger. Just for today I will not worry. Just for today I will be filled with gratitude. Just for today I will live my life with integrity. Just for today I will be kind to every living thing, including myself." This affirmation sets my intention for the day and infuses me with positive energy. (And I love how it states 'just for today'...that makes it feel attainable to me. Like if I mess up today, there's always tomorrow to try again.)

  7. Dancing & Movement--Physically moving your body in any way, shape, or form shifts not only your human body, but your energetic body as well. This is particularly helpful if you feel stuck, blah, or overcome with negativity. Yoga, Qigong, and Tai-Chi, are traditional ways to move and cultivate life energy. Equally effective is an impromptu dance party in your own living room. With a swing in your step, tap of your toes, or a few funky kicks, you'll invigorate your energy and all the energy around you. Like they say on Gray's Anatomy 'dance it out'!

  8. Visualization--See it. Believe it. Achieve it. You alone hold the incredible power to create the life you want, simply by "seeing" it for yourself. Visualization is a way to bring forth positivity, hope, and abundance in your life. Spend a few minutes each day visualizing your best life. For me that's a daily practice visualizing myself, my family, my community, my country, and the entire world enveloped in a cocoon of white light, divine protection, and endless hope and love.

  9. Journaling--A great way to unburden yourself of negative or blocked energy is to get your thoughts and feelings "out" on paper. The act of hand writing a journal (vs typing) is proven to therapeutic in many ways. Your writing doesn't have to be anything fancy or formal. Simply grab paper and pen and write what comes to you. You may want to write first thing in the morning about your dreams, or write reflections of your day before bed. You may even want to try Free Form Writing to see what you can access from your subconscious. There's no right or wrong way to journal.

  10. Gratitude--A simple yet effective way to shift your energy is with this 2 minute gratitude practice: Close your eyes and take 5 slow, deep breaths to center yourself. As you breathe deeply, clear your mind by focusing only on the in and out of your breath. From this place of calm, mentally list what you're grateful for in life. Include every single thing you can think of...big and small...trivial and significant. How long is your list? How do you feel as your list continues to grow? Now place your hand over your heart. Feel the gratitude grow in your heart center. Breathe in the gratitude. Open your eyes when you're ready. Carry this feeling of gratitude with you throughout your day.
