February 2022 Reflections

Updated: Apr 28

The month of February ushers in a lot of things...Valentine's Day, Black History Month, Groundhog's Day, Lunar New Year, President's Day, Superbowl Sunday, Fat Tuesday, Ash Wednesday, Susan B. Anthony Day and Rihanna's Birthday just to name a few. And this particular February brings with it something extra...the beginning of year three with COVID. We've now been living with COVID for two full years. And though things are getting better, it's still daily news. Restrictions, illness, and precautions still affect our daily lives in both big and little ways. COVID is still a topic of conversation and a consideration before making plans. It's still the reason we panic every time someone coughs. And if I may so boldly assert--IT'S A LOT! So I'm checking in. How are you doing? I'm asking with all sincerity, how are you really doing? Have you taken a minute to check in with yourself lately? Or are you still in day-to-day survival mode like so many of us are? If it feels comfortable to you, see if you can take a pause here. Take a deep breath, close your eyes, and check in with yourself. What do you notice? What thoughts come up? How does your body feel? Do any emotions arise? Stay in this stillness as long as you're able to. And come back as often as you'd like. Simply quieting your mind and noticing what comes up for you will benefit your nervous system in a meaningful way. Perhaps you can practice some gentle self-care this month? It doesn't need to be fancy, expensive, or too time consuming. (I don't subscribe to store bought self-care.) I believe self-care is anything done with intention that brings you joy. Self-care can be as simple as a deep breath when you step outside. A warm shower using your favorite smelling soap. Reading a book in bed. That first sip of coffee in the morning. A walk with a friend. Journaling. Stargazing. Meditating. Singing. Dancing. Laughing. The list is as long as your imagination. See what comes up for you. Wishing each and every one of you a month of abundant love, care, and connection. With a grateful heart, Kristen
